State of things 2025
State of things 2025
First of all: Thank You all for showing interest in my silly little game!
Delta-Gal was made in Unity game engine a while ago by one person. It was my first serious project, it started as "I wonder if I can make a thing that looks like this" and then I just started making things and learning as I go. A lack of a clear plan for the project made development very inefficient where I'd keep remaking things or working on assets and features that didn't have a clear purpose. "Under the hood" the game had similar problems.
After a while it became clear to me that I've bitten off more than I can chew. At the time I decided that I'm not continuing the development, but since some people had shown interest on twitter, I decided to clean up what I've made and turn it in to something close to a game - and that's how Delta-Gal on this website came to be.
Reception of the demo (or maybe it'd be more accurate to call it a prototype) was quite positive. For a while I decided to continue my Unity project after all, but all the issues listed above still persisted and the development was floundering. And then Unity "sealed the deal" - they retroactively changed the terms for games that had already been released. Communication on their part was very unclear and even though I on a scale I'm working Unity's changes probably wouldn't affect me, the trust in Unity as a company was gone, I no longer wanted to work with their engine. This was the straw that broke the camels back.
For better or for worse, I started experimenting with Godot engine. It's open source and what I make with it is mine with no terms and conditions that can be change on a whim of some businessman.
Since both engines have quite a few differences and I was looking for a fresh start, I started making assets and mechanics from scratch. I was experimenting with artstyle a bit, made characters a bit more chibi-looking; reasoning being that a simpler style will let me be done with the game. The style was fine, but not great so I'm moving back to the kind of proportions and level of detail that's closer to the prototype. But, as I said, I'm starting work from scratch so both the mechanics and style are a bit different.
TL;DR - Delta-Gal of Unity is dead, long live Gally of Godot
So how is the development going?
- Same as before, I'm working a normie jobs on and off and in-between jobs the development continues. I live in a pretty cheap place and don't have a lavish lifestyle, but still, even the basic necessities take time and/or money. With this fractured development schedule it's really hard to give any estimates on completion. Delta-Gal is still open for donations and I have a ko-fi if you want to skip middlemen (https://ko-fi.com/arthurvyater), BUT I don't expect to receive the kind of amount of donations that will make or break the game, of course it helps and is greatly appreciated, but put you own financial interests first instead!
Will there be a demo for your new game?
- I'm leaning towards no. I released Delta-Gal demo only because I was thinking of killing the project at the time. For this, If I have the time to work on a demo - I have the time to work on a full game and I'd rather put my efforts there. But we'll see.
Where can we follow your progress?
- I'm not too active on itch (tbh I was neglecting this site, just to be surprised that I'm still getting engagement here), I still have my twitter https://x.com/ArthurVyater and if you don't like being on that site, I also post on bsky https://bsky.app/profile/arthurvyater.bsky.social

We all understand that life is a thing, so don't sweat not being able to provide demos or anything. What I think people truly want from you however, is that you at least provide a status update every once in a while, even if that is every couple of months, because according to this very same website, the last post regarding information about the game was in 2020, and for the game industry even if you are dealing with indie stuff, that long of a period of time usually means that something happened to the developer, whether it is that they gave up or that they could not continue things for some reason, and unfortunately after having seen so many good games ending up getting abandoned, it might be hard to get support for the development of your game, as folks have become wary and are no longer willing to donate on every project that might look appealing. I can only say that I hope you have a better time at handling things this time around, because I've seen so many Mega Man inspired projects being in the works for so many years, where the one that I have been waiting for the longest has been X Corrupted, and the way that developer is handling their game which has taken about 12 years with no playable demos, I don't know what to expect nowadays so I can only say Good Luck.
